Mohamed Ali Kibao: The Tanzanian Opposition Leader Who Was Killed Was Beaten and Thrown Acid in His Face

Dar es Salaam – Tanzania is faced with the shocking murder of Mohamed Ali Kibao, the main member of the secretariat of the opposition party CHADEMA.

Kibao's body was discovered on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam after he was abducted from a bus by two armed men on their way to Tanga.

The shocking discovery revealed that Kibao was brutally beaten and had acid thrown on his face, according to CHADEMA chairman Freeman Mbowe.

A preliminary autopsy confirmed these findings, with a full autopsy report expected to be completed.

“The autopsy has been done and it is obvious that Ally Kibao was killed after being badly beaten and even having acid thrown on his face. We cannot allow our people to continue to disappear or be killed like this,” Mbowe said.

How was Kibao kidnapped?

A report by The Citizen newspaper explained that CHADEMA Secretary General John Mnyika said the kidnapping happened when a bus entering Kibao was stopped by two unmarked cars.

He revealed that armed men got out of the vehicles, while one instructed the bus driver to remain silent while the other two boarded the bus and kidnapped Kibao directly.

Another person, who was posing as a passenger, joined the kidnappers and handcuffed the opposition leader.

“The bus was stopped by two unmarked cars. People with guns got out of the cars. One of them ordered the bus driver not to move, while the other two boarded the bus. They went straight to where Mr Kibao was sitting and took him by force ,” Mnyika explained in detail.

Responding to that evil act, the President Samia Solution Hassan has ordered an immediate investigation, stressing his government's zero tolerance for such atrocities.

“It is very sad that I have received the news of the assassination of CHADEMA leader Mohamed Ali Kibao. I offer my condolences to the leaders of the party, Kibao's family, relatives, friends, and all who knew him,” Solution he wrote on X.
