- Drama broke out at the High Court in Nairobi after activists disrupted a session presided over by Justice Lawrence Mugambi
- The session was for the acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli who defied the summons of the court
- Masengeli was to be questioned about the whereabouts of the three Kenyans who disappeared in Kitengela
Nairobi—Drama started in the city court when activists disrupted the hearing where the IG had been summoned to the court to explain the whereabouts of the three missing persons.
How Nairobi activists were treated in court
Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli was ordered to appear in court to explain the whereabouts of the missing persons.
Charles Sakei and Julius Kamau had to be dragged out of court by security guards, who had a hard time trying to stop them
Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued a warning if the acting IG fails to comply with the summons and address inquiries about the whereabouts of the three abducted persons.
Mesengeli was supposed to attend the court session at 3 pm for questioning on Tuesday, September 3, but he failed.
Why acting IG Gilbert Masengeli was needed in court
The court order followed an earlier order for security agents to reveal the whereabouts of Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton, and Aslam Longton, which was ignored.
The three people were reportedly arrested and detained incommunicado after actively participating in efforts to oppose the now repealed Finance Bill 2024.
Federation of Lawyers Kenya (LSK) filed a petition in court, claiming that the three were kidnapped by armed men and forcibly placed in a white Subaru car, which then left for an unknown location.
Amnesty International and LSK said that the three were last seen on August 19, and their whereabouts are still unknown.
Judge Mugambi earlier ordered Masengeli to release the three or bring them to court, dead or alive.
The court was told that Masengeli was busy with other officers so he could not come to court.
The three were last seen on August 19 when they were placed in a white Subaru.
