The deputy president's remarks come in response to the accusations he is facing in his efforts to seek support within his political stronghold of Mount Kenya.

During the funeral service of the former chief executive officer of NACADA Victor Okioma in Kiminini, the Deputy President faced his critics.

He questioned why he is called a tribe when he calls for the unity of Mlima Kenyawhile other leaders, such as the governor of Trans Nzoia, George Natembeya, were praised for similar calls.

Gachagua regretted that his call for unity in the Mount Kenya region is often met with accusations of tribalism, unlike the reception given to leaders from other parts of the country.

He questioned whether there is one law for Mt Kenya and another for other Kenyans.

“When I talk about the unity of my region, people immediately call me a tribe, I don't understand the criteria, because Natembeya has not asked the people of West connect? I have not heard anyone accusing him of racism. But when I, from the mountain region, say the mountain people should unite, suddenly it's, “Tribe! Are there different sets of laws in Kenya. Do you want the mountain to unite or not,” the vice president said.

How should Kenya unite?

The second head said that the unity of the country should start in the regions before the country becomes one.

He explained that communities must first be able to speak with one voice before having a united nation.

“I want to say that all politics are local. And as you say, Natembeya, I am with you in this. You cannot unite the country when communities or regions are divided. First, keep your own region, then reach other regions so that we have one united country but soon I often see that you call for unity, and no one attacks you, everyone should unite their area for one united country,” the vice president said.

Gachagua predicts a bad future for Mount Kenya

Earlier, Gachagua warned of conspiracies against the Mount Kenya area, accusing individuals of fomenting discord among residents.

Gachagua highlighted his awareness of these plans and urged the residents of Mount Kenya to wake up and recognize the threat, warning of a dark future.

To counter these efforts, the Deputy President appealed to the elders in the region, likening politicians who cause divisions to children.
