Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has raised concerns about Azimio leader Raila Odinga's desire to vie for the position of African Union Commission (AUC) chairman.
The MP suggested that the veteran politician's campaign for the continental seat is taking the role seriously.
At the church event, Maanzo expressed his support for the efforts of the former prime minister but mentioned important issues regarding the campaign.
He saw the beginning as a campaign Raila does not have the necessary support to secure the prestigious AUC position.
He noted that during the launch of his bid in the White House Nairobithere was little representation from the diplomatic elite.
“We all wish Raila well in the African Union. However, the way this campaign is run is like a game. If Raila had received a proper campaign, we would have seen at least 30 presidents here on the day of the inauguration; look at the Arabs here, we would have seen people speaking French in a diplomatic language used by the minister. because the president tells you that you have failed,” the senator said.
Who will be blamed if Raila loses?
The senator warned that if Raila fails to get the position of AUC chairman, President William Ruto will bear the blame.
He accused Ruto and his allies of not putting enough effort into the campaign, implying that Raila was being manipulated.
“So, we wish Raila well, but woe betide Ruto if Raila does not make it to the African Union. We will blame you, Ruto, because you are campaigning like a joke. It is as if you are playing a game with Raila Odinga.” Beginnings added.
