The late father of the athlete Uganda Rebecca Cheptegei has expressed her deep sorrow for losing her beloved daughter.
What did Rebecca Cheptegei's father say?
Speaking in pain, Joseph Cheptegei said he has lost his daughter who made sure the family was well taken care of.
“I have lost my daughter who I depended on. She was helping us in many ways,” Cheptegei's father said.
In addition, he asked the government to ensure that they get justice for the death of his daughter who lost him in a tragic way.
“I am sad because I don't see any efforts being made by the government. The person who caused my daughter's death has not been caught. He can run away,” he complained.
Joseph described his daughter's attacker as an “animal” who had tormented her for months before setting her on fire.
He explained that they reported concerns about Cheptegei's ex-boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, to the police, but nothing was done.
He claimed that if action had been taken, his daughter would be alive.
“This person is not a good person. He has been bothering my daughter before her death. We even took the matter to DCIbut they didn't respond quickly enough. There was a time when Cheptegei traveled to Uganda and this man followed him. there,” he said.
What killed the athlete Cheptegei?
Earlier, doctors at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) said the Ugandan marathon runner died of multiple organ failure.
Cheptegei died of burns Thursday morning, September 5.
He suffered multiple organ failure due to the severe injuries he sustained.
According to doctors, Cheptegei had 80 percent burns and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where doctors tried to stabilize his condition.
