Kilifi – A family in Kilifi county is mourning the death of their relative, who passed away at night.

It is said that the police attacked Lewis Munga at his home where he was said to have been beaten until he died.

Babuye Munga tells his heartache

The 20-year-old man was reported to be the victim of a police operation at night along with other youths who suffered injuries.

“He told me the police beat him on Thursday night. When they saw him looking helpless, they left him on the ground, carried others and took them to the cell. Many people were taken out of their homes naked,” Munga's father, Dickson Omari Mundu, told Citizen TV.

The young man's death saddened his grandfather as well who doubted rumors about Munga's death.

“Even if they say it's robbery, how did he steal while naked?” he asked bitterly.

Aunt Munga opens up about her pain

The family claims that the police ambushed the young men and other women and started beating them during that time.

Efforts to take Munga to the hospital quickly did not bear fruit, as the alleged police injured him badly.

“He was crying with a headache. He was foaming at the mouth. He was complaining of a headache,” Munga's aunt said.
