United States – Kevin Kang'ethe is the prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu, whose body was discovered at Logan Airport in Massachusetts.
Following the incident, Kang'ethe fled to Kenya and was later arrested at the Westlands venue, Nairobi.
After spending several months in custody at the Muthaiga Police Station, he was extradited to the United States on Sunday, September 1, 2024, to face murder charges in the Suffolk High Court.
“Kevin Kangethe tried to avoid murder. After a long and tumultuous road, Kang'ethe has now returned to Boston to answer the charges of murdering his lover,” Kimberly Milka, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Boston Division in Boston reports. com.
On Tuesday, September 3, Kang'ethe appeared in court, where he denied the charges of killing and disposing of Mbitu's body.
The court denied him bail, stressing that the process of doing justice to Mbitu and his family has just begun.

This claim was supported by Assistant District Attorney Mark Lee, who revealed that Mbitu had 10 injuries to his face and neck, including serious injuries to the carotid artery and jugular vein, according to CBS News.
“Ten injuries to the face and neck alone, including serious injuries to the spine and neck. Kang'ethe left his body in the front seat of a black car from his death until 30 hours later when he drove the car to the Stadium Logan's plane while Mbitu's body was in the front seat, face down, the seat reclined, his body was covered with bags and random items so that it was difficult to see him and then he boarded the plane to Nairobi, Kenya.” Lee said.

Kang'ethe's lawyer however argued that they have not yet been given evidence and reiterated that Kang'ethe maintains his innocence.
“At this time, I have not been given any of the evidence that the community claims to have,” the lawyer said.
Kang'ethe is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on November 5.
Meanwhile, Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga pledged to support the FBI as Kang'ethe's case continues.
Kevin Kang'ethe escapes from custody
A week after his arrest in Nairobi, he was reported missing at the high-security Muthaiga Police Station.
According to reports, he had left to meet a man who claimed to be his lawyer and after a while, he escaped and jumped into a tricycle.
This led to the arrest of his lawyer and four police officers who were involved in the fugitive's escape plan.
