17 bodies are found in the plane that disappeared shortly after takeoff

The plane, which disappeared shortly after takeoff on Saturday, August 31, was carrying 19 tourists and 3 crew members to Kamchatka, a scenic area known for its volcanoes.

Where was the missing Russian plane found?

On Sunday morning, September 1, rescuers found the remains of the helicopter in a mountainous area at an altitude of 900 meters (2,953 feet), according to Kamchatka governor Vladimir Solodov, as CTV News reported.

“The wreckage was seen from the air near the last contact area. So far, we have recovered 17 bodies. Rescuers have set up a temporary camp, and the search will resume at dawn,” reported Ivan Lemikhov, an official from the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The helicopter was operated by Vityaz-Aero, a Kamchatka-based tour company, according to Moscow Times.

Earlier, the rescue team reported that the foggy weather prevented them from finding and rescuing the victims.

Authorities also noted that the crew had not given any warning about potential problems before take-off or before the accident.

9 people feared to have died in a plane crash in Thailand

Elsewhere, nine people, including two pilots, were feared dead after a private plane crashed in a swamp in Thailand.

The seven, identified as tourists, were traveling in a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan to Trat province when the accident happened.

Initial reports stated that the plane crashed into a mangrove forest in Chachoengsao before catching fire.
