Kenya has borrowed KSh 40 billion from China to revive stalled projects across the country amid taxpayers' concerns that many projects had been put on hold.
The Chairman of the National Assembly Budget Committee Ndindi Nyoro said the contractors will return to work on the projects in early September, following the agreement signed by the two nations.
According to Nyoro, Kenya's budget is under pressure and needs more funding due to unfinished bills.
“For the last 10 years, we bit off more than we could chew, and that's why we now have many unfinished projects, especially on roads,” Nyoro said, as reported by Citizen Digital.
The money will be used in road projects in 15 counties and is expected to spread to other counties where the roads are spread.
Which stalled road projects will be prioritized?
According to Capital FM, the Metembe-Owalo-Rioma-Marani-Ng'enyi/Ting'a-Bobaracho-Ragogo-Kegogi-Nyakoora-Rioma-Gesieka-Nyaore-Mararo road with a length of 64.5 kilometers, which was initially identified as a project failed. , will be given priority.
The funds will also be used to complete the Kaiboi-Kapkatembu-Kipkaren Selia-Kaiboi road with a length of 75.92 kilometers in NandiFour Mile-Tuiyo, and Soko-Tuiyo-Aturei.
The list also includes the 43km Barpelo-Tot-Marich Pass road, at a cost of Ksh 15 billion, which connects the counties of Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot.
The following roads would be built in the counties of Embu and Kirinyaga: Kanyaumbora-Kamomo-Kageri, Muvakari-Kanyuambora, Gachoka-Gachuriri, and Kangeta-Kiumbuini.

President William Ruto he is expected to leave the country on Sunday, September 1, for China.
Ruto did not discuss the details of the trip but said he will be in the Asian country to sign a KSh 40 billion contract for road development.
This will be Ruto's first trip abroad after months of detention in Kenya, where he faced a violent youth-led rebellion against his rule.
