Migori – Activities in Ngege village, Suna East Constituency came to a standstill on Wednesday, August 28, following the surprise visit of the President William Ruto.
The president was Migori on a development tour and visited Janet Auma, a widow, in the village.
It was more than just a visit, as the head of state also took time out of his busy schedule to enjoy lunch with her.
Auma's happiness was evident on her face as she served the president tea and bread at her family's table, which they enjoyed together.
What did William Ruto promise Migori's widow?
In a short conversation, Ruto made several promises to the widow that will also benefit the village.
“For a warm and friendly welcome, I promise a free electricity bill for your home by next week,” the president said.
For Auma, it was a blessing to host the president in his humble home.
Now he is hoping for a change for the better, especially with the promise of being connected to the national grid.
“For many years we have been in the dark and I hope the president's promise of free electricity will be fulfilled,” he said.
Apart from ensuring that Auma has electricity, free of charge, within a few days, President Ruto ordered that the residents of Ngege village get electricity within two months.
The village has been in the dark since independence, but if the president's promise is anything to go by, that is about to change.
As a thank you for the visit, Auma presented Ruto with two goats.
The President was in Migori on his four-day development visit to the Luo Nyanza region, where he will launch several projects.
