Despite naming Ronney Onyango, Sylvester Owino, Alphonce Omija, Lawrence Juma, Ben Stanley Omondi, Alpha Onyango, and Austin Odhiambo in the 49-member provisional squad, only Ronney Onyango made the cut. The marauding right back was in Norway for trials.
South Africans continue to send mixed signals regarding Benni McCarthy’ appointment as Harambee Stars coach.
According to Mozzart Sports, Gor Mahia Chief Executive Officer Raymond Oruo has addressed the claims. “I’ve seen the statement from the Harambee Stars head coach after the match against Gabon. The coach and FKF are well aware of the regulations governing the release of players for international duty. Our clubs should not be treated any differently,” Oruo said.
“Our players were available immediately after the Bandari game. If the coach decided they were surplus to his requirements, then he should just say so, as he had the chance to watch them in a competitive league match.”

Harambee Stars had a much-improved performance in their 2-1 loss to Gabon at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday and here is how the players performed.
Gor Mahia beat Bandari 2-0 on March 15, three days before Harambee Stars left for Abidjan to ruffle feathers against The Gambia. The South African had taken a swipe at Gor Mahia and Tusker saying he had no option after the clubs requested to keep their players.
“When I arrived, I requested three days to evaluate some of the top players in the Kenyan league.
“The players available during that period are the ones I selected. Gor Mahia and Tusker asked for permission to keep their players, and we agreed. But I can’t select players I haven’t seen in action or know nothing about, which is why none of them were in the squad.”

Gor Mahia will return to action on March 30th in an explosive Mashemeji derby match against arch-rivals AFC Leopards.
