Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers on Monday, March 24, 2025, confirmed the launch of a probe into a case of stolen car during the World Cup qualifying match between Harambee Stars and Gabon.
In a statement, DCI noted that its officers from Lang’ata had launched an investigation to trace the said car and establish how it was stolen as Harambee Stars locked horns with Gabon in a match that ended 1-2 in the favour of the visiting side.
According to the statement published on X, the football fan parked his car by the roadside along Kisauni Road at around 3.40 pm and proceeded to the fan-parked stadium for the World Cup Qualifiers showdown.

Found it missing
Upon returning at around 7:00 pm, the football fan found his car, silver in colour, missing, prompting him to file a report at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata.
“A football fan is lamenting the loss of his vehicle, which was stolen while parked by the roadside along Kisauni Road behind the Nairobi West Hospital, as he watched a match between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Gabon’s national team at the Nyayo Stadium.
“Reporting at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, the car owner indicated that he parked his Toyota IST registration number KBN 093B silver in colour at the said spot at 3.40 pm and proceeded to the fan-parked stadium for the World Cup Qualifiers showdown,” DCI’s report read in part.
“Still healing from a 2-1 loss to the Aubameyang-led Gabonese, the man returned to pick his car at minutes past 7 pm only to find it missing,” it added.
Having provided sufficient proof of the car’s ownership, DCI circulated it as stolen while launching a probe to determine how it went missing.

Separate incident
In a separate incident, DCI reported that they are investigating the theft of a white Toyota Axio that went missing from a residential house at the Matangi area near Rurii Primary School, Kimbo.
The owner had left it parked outside the residential home on Saturday night, but on waking up found it gone.
“Have you seen these cars? Please report to any police station or call the National Police Service hotlines 999, 911, 112 or 800722203.” DCI pleaded with the public to help trace the missing vehicles.
