The Selection Panel for the recruitment of nominees for the position of Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the commencement of interviews for shortlisted candidates.
In a press release issued on Sunday, March 23, 2025, the interviews for the Chairperson position will begin on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 8:30 am and will continue for three days, concluding on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Chairperson of the Selection Panel Nelson Makanda, said the panel had previously published the list of 11 shortlisted candidates in the media and on the Parliament of Kenya website on March 14, 2025.
“The Selection Panel for the recruitment of nominees for appointment for positions of Chairperson and Members of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is pleased to inform the public of the commencement of interviews of shortlisted candidates for the position of Chairperson, tomorrow, Monday 24th March, 2025 at 8:30 am,” Makanda stated.
Adding; “As previously published in the Daily Nation and The Standard newspapers and, on the Parliament of Kenya Website on Friday, March 14, 2025, 11 applicants shortlisted for the position of Chairperson will be interviewed over three days concluding on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.”
Clearances
Candidates have been reminded to present current and valid clearances from key institutions, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Higher Education Loans Board, the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Commission for University Education (for those with foreign degrees), and any of the Credit Reference Bureaus.
“We wish to remind all shortlisted applicants to bring current and valid clearances from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Higher Education Loans Board, the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Commission for University Education for applicants with degrees from foreign universities, and any of the Credit Reference Bureaus,” the press statement read in part.
Additionally, members of the public have been invited to submit any information concerning the suitability of the shortlisted candidates. Such information must be submitted in writing, under oath, and by memoranda no later than five days before the interview date of the respective candidate.
“Members of the public are invited to avail in writing, under oath and by memoranda, any information of interest concerning the suitability of any of the shortlisted applicants to serve as Member of the IEBC, not later than five days before the day of interview of the said candidate,” the statement read further.
Submissions may be made via registered mail, hand-delivered in a sealed envelope to the Chairperson of the Selection Panel at the County House Building on Parliament Road, or sent online as a PDF attachment to [email protected].
As the interviews began, the panel reassured the public that the process would be fair, transparent, and impartial.
Makanda also extended his appreciation to the media for their continued coverage of the recruitment process, urging them to maintain their engagement throughout.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to you, the media, for the ongoing support, and urge you to continue providing coverage throughout this process,” he added.
Former Chairman of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC), Charles Nyachae, and the immediate former Registrar of the Judiciary, Anne Amadi, are among the first group of 11 candidates scheduled to be interviewed for the position of chairperson IEBC.
