Faith Omollo's role began in 2015 when his friend, who met him on Facebook, introduced him to the prescribed position in Malaysia.
He was told he would work in a shop owned by a Chinese businessman and his wife, who was deceived to believe he was an African.
Before traveling, Omollo visited his friend's family in the country Nigeriawhere they handed him a package containing baby clothes and other items on his way to the airport.

“They were so friendly that I had no reason to question them. They were like my agents, and before leaving their house, they even prayed for me. I never thought there was anything wrong,” He remembered.
The wallet was inspected in Nigeria, and was allowed to continue. However, when they arrived in Malaysia, the authorities realized the error in the package, and its problems began.
Faith Omollo was arrested and sentenced to death in Malaysia
Omollo explained how Malaysian officials were suspicious after inspecting the bag.
“Their words said it all, and the voice from the bag was amazing. One Indian official came to me, looked at my notes, and questioned why I was in Malaysia. Then I was told that the rich man I came to work was not married to an African woman and did not hire Africans,” He said.
The authorities contacted the agent, who insisted that the bag had nothing to doubt. However, further inspections revealed that the drugs were hidden inside the bag layer during manufacture.
Future efforts to reach the people who had given him the package were unsuccessful. He was detained for 14 days and spent five days to attend court sessions.
Attempts to contact his friend failed, and he was detained for 14 days before being charged with drug trafficking.
He endured in court more than five years, where the judge sentenced him to death.
“Africans we have been destroying our country, so I judge you death. You will be killed here,” The judge told him.
Despite that bad decision, Omollo remained optimistic.
“I was not afraid because I knew I was not guilty and that my God was alive. I just thanked the judge for sentenced me to death,” He narrated.
His family, however, was sad, praying for him regularly as his fate was hanging.
Why was Faith Omollo released from Malaysia's prison
Omollo appealed against the decision and endured three years of court hearing. His case was reviewed by a panel of three judges – two of them, from India and China, decided to support him, while the Malaysian judge continued to hold his position to hold the death sentence.

“I continued to return to prison as I prayed. The Malaysian judge finally sentenced me to 30 years in prison, excluding eight years I had already stayed in prison,” He said.
However, his lawyer, a citizen of India, opposed the decision, saying that an innocent person should not serve such a strong imprisonment.
Instead, he asked the judge to let him continue to serve the death sentence. He emphasized that the court would review CCTV images, which resulted in the case being reviewed.
Three months later, Omollo was informed that he would be sent back to Kenya on December 12, 2024.
Omollo described his time in prison as unacceptable, despite finding other Kenyans in the same situation.
“There were many Kenyan young men, many of them in the 20s, who had left the country in search of raw green pastures but ended up in prison,” He said.
He called on Kenyans to be careful before traveling and aware of the laws of foreign countries to avoid falling into trouble. Omollo was in tears when he knew he was returning home.

“I suffered. Walking with chains on my hands, feet, and waist because I was sentenced to death. Even seeing the sun was a rare opportunity,” He complained.
“I was weak when I heard we were about to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. When I got home, I was overwhelmed because I had forgotten about my young child,” he added.
While in prison, Omollo went through a change and became a dedicated Christian, involving his living with faith.
Now at home, he hopes to rebuild his life while sharing his story as a cautionary story for others seeking opportunities abroad.
