Journalists urged to uphold professional ethics – Kenya News Agency

Gusii Scribes Welfare Association Chairman Joshua Araka has encouraged members of the press in Kisii and Nyamira counties to adhere to the ethical standards that guide their day-to-day reporting.

Speaking during a mentorship session at the Kisii Digital Content Production Hub on the outskirts of Kisii town, Araka told journalists that upholding the media ethics as stipulated in the Media Code of Conduct would enhance their credibility in the industry.

“Practising responsible journalism starts with understanding ethical guidelines and being part of associations that protect and support scribes,” he stated.

The Chairman encouraged journalism students on attachment to register with organisations such as the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the Kenya Correspondents Association (KCA) to improve their professional growth.

Araka pointed out the significance of accreditation, noting that it provides legitimacy and access to better opportunities in the media industry.

In addition, he urged the upcoming journalists to remain committed to accurate and objective reporting even as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The session was attended by officers from MCK-accredited practising journalists and journalism students in the region.
