Daniel Komen has reflected on Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s record-breaking run, attributing it to key factors beyond just talent.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen did the unthinkable as he shattered Daniel Komen’s 3000m world record at the 2024 Diamond League Meeting in Silesia.
Ingebrigtsen clocked a stunning 7:17.55 to obliterate the previous world record of 7:20.67 that Komen set in Rieti in 1996.
Daniel Komen, in a recent interview with Dmytro Moyseyev, revealed that no one would have come close to that record if not for the advancement of technology.

Victor Wanyama has been named alongside Virgil van Dijk as one of Celtic’s best teammates, with Scott Brown recalling his dominance on the pitch.
He insisted that if Ingebrigtsen had been running with pacemakers, he could have clocked a slower time and possibly missed the world record but with the advancement of running spikes and the wave light technology, it was easy for him to shatter the record.
Komen revealed that he was unaware of his record being broken by Jakob Ingebrigtsen, adding that at the time, he was having a great time at the Masai Mara National Park.
“If it was not for technology, he could not have broken that record, technology played a huge role in his success. I think technology, hard training and diet, I think those are the factors,” Daniel Komen said.

Harambee Stars fought hard in a tense Group F match staging a strong comeback but ultimately settling for a dramatic draw.
“At the moment, no one can run with that guy. If he was using manual pacemakers, it could have been slower but because of technology, you can push it and put an altitude.”
Daniel Komen added that he will be paying a visit to Jakob Ingebrigtsen to congratulate him for a great job well done.
He revealed that deep down, he knew the world record would be broken one day since athletes are training hard and dedicating their energy to achieving extraordinary feats.

Letsile Tebogo, Christian Coleman, and Kishane Thompson headline a thrilling 100m race in Shanghai/Keqiao, kicking off a fierce sprint rivalry.
Komen also backed Ingebrigtsen to break the 1500m world record this year as he believes the Norwegian has all it takes to achieve the feat.
“I think he can lower the 1500m world record if he concentrates on it because if you are doing the 1500m, 3000m and 5000m, you can do anything. I think he can lower it…he is in a class of his own,” he said.
“I will be visiting him to congratulate him for breaking the world record because people were saying it would stay for long.
“Every person is the best as long as they train and have discipline. If he goes to the marathon, he can dominate.”
Jakob Ingebrigtsen started his 2025 season with a win at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF. He then went to the European Indoor Championships where he won gold in the 1500m and 3000m.
