Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has revealed that the 2027 General Election will be determined by the Muslim vote.
“Sisi kama Waislamu tuko ngangari. Katika nchi hii yetu sasa tuko wengi. Uchaguzi hii inayokuja, muislamu atakuja kusema yote. Kwa sababu kura ya waislamu sasa ni ikura kubwa sana katika taifa hili,” Junet said. (As Muslims, we are ready and in the next general election, the muslim vote will be important because we form a significant voting bloc in this country now.)
“Na hapa mbele, kuna watu watasimama rais ama Naibu wa Rais. Kura ya Waislamu ni nyingi na haitachukuliwa hivihivi. Tutaweka vitu kwa meza na watu wahesabu. Kuna wengine wanafikiria wako wengi kushinda wengine, lakini ngoja kura ipigwe waone kina nani wako wengi,” Junet added. (In future, we have people among ourselves who will vie for the presidency or Deputy Presidency. The Muslim vote is significant and it won’t be taken for granted. Other people think they have numbers but we also do.)
Urge Raila to convert
The Minority Leader in the National Assembly equally urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to convert to Islam, having stood with the community for a long time.
“Upendo wako kwa waislamu inajulikana. Ni upendo wa dhati na ni upendo ambao umekuwa kwa muda mrefu sana. Tunakuombea Mungu akujalie uwe muislamu na ufturu na sisi Ramadhan ijayo kama wewe ni muislamu,” Junet remarked. (You have stood with the Muslim community for a long time and your love for our people is evident. We pray that you convert to Islam so that in the next Ramadhan season, you share with us as a Muslim.)
During the iftar dinner in Upper Hill on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Raila stunned the Muslim leaders and attendees when he revealed that he had read the Quran for a long time.
5 Pillars of Islam
Raila equally moved the audience when he listed the five pillars of Islam which include the declaration that Allah is the sole God and that Muhammad is his prophet (Shahadah), five daily prayers while facing Mecca (Salah), alms given to the poor (Zakat), fasting during Ramadhan (Saum) and at least a pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims capable of doing so (Hajj).
On his part, Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho observed that the love and admiration Raila has had with the Muslim community spans decades of siding with them and advocating their issues.
“There is a serious historical background of our relations with Raila Odinga that not everybody can understand,” Joho said.
