Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has defended why he is eligible to vie for a second term, issuing a bold declaration to his challengers.

Gor Mahia Football Club Chairman, Ambrose Rachier, has firmly defended his eligibility to vie for a second term in office and issuing a bold challenge to his challengers.

Having led the club since 2008, Rachier is now vying for a second term under the 2019 constitution, following his first term which began in 2020.

Addressing the media during the announcement of Gor Mahia’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election date on Tuesday, March 18, Rachier announced his second-term bid via Gor Mahia Media.

“I am and I’ll be submitting my papers. They are all here,” said Rachier when asked if he will vying for a second term.

Rachier’s bid comes amid opposition from challengers, but he remains unwavering, citing both the club’s constitution and a ruling from the Sports Tribunal dated January 25.

The Joe Kadenge stadium, formerly City stadium, which previously served as home ground for Gor Mahia is expected to be in usable condition following renovations.


“I’ve shown you the Kenyan Constitution and the constitution of the club. In 2019, we held the first elections in 2020. We’ve served the first term of four years, and we are all eligible to serve the second term,” he asserted.

Backing his claims with legal precedence, Rachier emphasized the Sports Tribunal’s ruling, which reaffirmed the provisions of Regulation 20 of the 2019 constitution.

The ruling seen by Pulse Sports on Kenya Law, explicitly states that “the Chairperson shall hold office for a term not exceeding four years, but is eligible for re-election for one more term; (ii) any other official shall hold office for a term not exceeding four years, but is eligible for re-election for one more term.”

As the election date approaches, Gor Mahia Football has confirmed that its Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on April 13, 2025.

The highly anticipated elections are expected to draw significant interest, with Rachier’s bid setting the stage for an intense leadership contest.
