Emmanuel Wanyonyi on why he will be running two races in Jamaica

Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has opened up on why kicked-off his campaign with an unusual 1500m race ahead of Grand Slam Track participation in Jamaica.

Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has shed light on his decision to compete in both the 800m and 1500m races at the upcoming Grand Slam Track event in Jamaica.

The Kenyan middle-distance star, known for his dominance in the 800m, recently took on an unusual challenge in the 1500m at a track meet in Kapsabet on March 15, a move he says was part of his endurance-building strategy.

Speaking after his victory in Kapsabet, Wanyonyi explained that the race was a strategic move to strengthen his endurance for the 800m.

Former Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi has shed light on Benni McCarthy’s thoughts on the quality of the Kenyan national football team.

“I ran 1500m because I need endurance for 800m, and the body responded well. For now, I am preparing for the Grand Slam in Jamaica, where I will run 800m and 1500m and then see how it turns out,” said Wanyonyi as quoted by Standard Media.

His decision to double in Jamaica is a bold move, as he acknowledges that the competition will be just as fierce—if not more so—than at the World Championships.

“The Grand Slam will likely be more competitive than the World Championships because I will be doubling in the 800m and 1500m,” he added.

One of the most anticipated matchups at the Grand Slam will be Wanyonyi’s showdown with Canada’s Marco Arop.
