Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi has launched a fundraiser to help bring home the body of Elizabeth Cheusi, a Kenyan woman who died in Saudi Arabia.
According to Omondi, Cheusi had travelled to the Middle East in search of better opportunities to provide for her children but tragically passed away over a month ago.
The activist took to social media on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, to share heartbreaking clips of Cheusi’s children, who are currently in Kenya under the care of their grandmother. The comedian expressed sorrow over their situation, noting that the children are struggling to understand their mother’s passing.
According to Omondi, the total amount needed to repatriate the body and conduct a burial is Ksh700,000. So far, Ksh200,000 has been raised, and he is calling on Kenyans to contribute and help reach the target as soon as possible.
The comedian emphasized the urgency of the matter, urging well-wishers to donate whatever they can to support the family. Contributions can be sent directly to Cheusi’s grandmother, Agnes Mmaitsi.
“Hey, guys…the story of Elizabeth Cheusi’s story is sad. She left for Saudi Arabia to fend for her young daughter and son, she left her kids with her grandmother. She passed on a month and a half ago. The fact that her children don’t even fully fathom death is sad enough. They need to bring back the body and bury her. Their lives cannot continue. We are already at 200k but we need at least 700k to fly her body home and bury her. Team sisi kwa sisi hii najua tutafunga leo na tumzike hii saturday… let’s go… send whatever you can to the grandmother,” Omondi stated.
He expressed hope that with collective effort, the remaining amount could be raised quickly so that the family could lay her to rest by Saturday.
Nduta
This comes as Kenyans have rallied behind Margaret Nduta, a 37-year-old Kenyan woman who faces execution in Vietnam for drug trafficking. Nduta was arrested in July 2023 at Ho Chi Minh City Airport after authorities discovered over two kilograms of cocaine hidden in her luggage. On March 6, 2025, the People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City sentenced her to death.
In response, Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has engaged diplomatic channels through its embassy in Thailand, sending a delegation to Hanoi to appeal for clemency or a delay in the execution. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei has been in direct talks with Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Nguyen Minh Hang, relaying the deep concern of the Kenyan public.

As a result, Nduta’s scheduled execution, set for the evening of Monday, March 17, 2025, did not take place as planned.
