MCAs who were angry with anger prevented Mvurya to give a speech on behalf of the President William Ruto.

The great turmoil witnessed the MPs start singing the song and draining the dance, and the slogans demanding the President's presence on the occasion.

Mvurya, who had been sent to represent Ruto, was interrupted in the middle of the speech while the MCAS whispered to him saying “No Ruto, no summit.”

Why did MCAS march?

The MPs accused the national government of ignoring county legislatures and failing to address their issues.

The organizers were forced to postpone the meeting, trying to calm the situation, but the MCAs were reluctant.

The event, which brought together more than 1,400 MCAS under the County Conference (CAF), was intended to discuss ways to strengthen the resolution and improve the county administration.

However, the MPs used the forum to present their sadness about insufficient funding, payment delays, and greater control of the national government.

Some even seemed to be carrying a chapel, seemingly ridiculed the recent promise of buying a machine that could make one million chapters daily for Nairobi students.

County MPs make claims to national, county governments

After the meeting resumed in a short time, MCAS called for the creation of the Ward Development Fund to ensure direct financial support to their constituencies.

They accused the national parliament of counties facing hunger for resources, thus making it difficult for units to be resolved to work properly.

“We are despised in the countryside because our problems start from the top. MCA one said.

The MPs also made it clear that they would not work under the control of governors, demanding more freedom to enact legislation and manage development projects at the ward level.

Nairobi's MCAS section criticized the leadership of Sakaja

The recent conflict is increasing the growing tensions between county governments and national administration.

Councilors have continued to complain about the lack of support by the central government, citing financial sanctions and monopoly as major obstacles to quality service.

In November 2024, some Nairobi MPs criticized Governor Johnson Sakaja for bad leadership and called on Ruto and Raila Odinga to intervene.

They claimed his administration had failed to make important promises such as better roads, housing and health care.

Deputy minority leader Waithera Chege said there was no sign of progress in the promises of the Sakaja manifesto.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai added that the city has no suitable administrative structures, thus making service delivery less efficient.
