The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory, warning Kenyans to prepare for rainfall across various regions from March 18 to 24, 2025.
According to a statement released on Monday, March 17, 2025, heavy rainfall is expected in multiple areas, including the Highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-Eastern Lowlands, and parts of Northeastern Kenya. The advisory urges residents in these regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions, as isolated heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding and disruptions.
In addition to rainfall, the department also highlighted extreme temperature variations across the country. The coastal region, as well as Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya, will experience daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C, making heat-related precautions essential for residents in these areas. Meanwhile, nighttime temperatures in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley are expected to drop below 10°C, potentially affecting vulnerable populations.
The weather authority has called on Kenyans to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety guidelines, especially in flood-prone areas. The public is advised to exercise caution while travelling and to be mindful of potential hazards such as slippery roads, reduced visibility, and strong winds.
“Weather Outlook: 18–24 March 2025 Rainfall continues in several parts of the country! Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Highlands East & West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands & Northeastern Kenya. Daytime temperatures: >30°C in Coast, Northeastern & Northwestern Kenya. Nighttime temperatures: <10°C in Highlands East of Rift & Central Rift Valley,” the weatherman said.
Fluctuating rain patterns

According to the forecast, rainfall intensity was expected to decline midweek before increasing again towards the end of the forecast period. Additionally, isolated heavy downpours were anticipated at both the beginning and end of the seven days.

The report indicated that most parts of Kenya would experience a temporary dry spell in the middle of the week, followed by a resurgence of rainfall as the week concluded. Areas expected to receive rainfall included the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley—Nairobi included—the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-Eastern Lowlands, the Coastal region, as well as sections of Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
