President Ruto highlights the 2025 Safari Rally’s role in boosting tourism, uniting Kenyans, showcasing talent, and cementing Kenya’s motorsport legacy.
President William Ruto has explained why the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally is a significant event for Kenya emphasizing its impact on sports, tourism and national unity.
Speaking ahead of the adrenaline-filled competition set to take place from March 20 to March 23 in Naivasha, Nakuru, and Nairobi counties, the President underscored the rally’s role in showcasing Kenya as a global motorsport hub.
He also noted that the event offers Kenyans an opportunity to witness world-class driving skills while fostering togetherness and entertainment.
“Rally is important because it showcases Kenya as a sporting nation and a chance for us Kenyans to enjoy and see the skills of our Kenyan drivers and also Kenyans uniting with their fellows for an entertainment weekend and tourists,” Ruto stated.
He extended a warm welcome to all drivers, guests, and spectators expected to attend the rally, emphasizing that Kenya is privileged to host an event of such magnitude. The Safari Rally, one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world, attracts participants and fans from across the globe, boosting the local economy and tourism sector.
“To all the drivers, visitors and all guests from our region and world over, welcome to Naivasha, welcome to the World Safari Rally. We are privileged to host all of you,” he added.
President Ruto also highlighted the rally’s economic benefits, particularly for the tourism sector. With thousands of international visitors expected to flock to Kenya for the event, he noted that businesses in hospitality, transport and other sectors will significantly benefit.
“The Safari Rally has become more than just a race; it is an economic driver that contributes to tourism, creates employment, and promotes Kenya’s image globally. Many people come from neighbouring countries and other continents, which is a boost for our economy,” he said.

The Head of State also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting motorsports in the country, noting that his government will continue working with the WRC organizers to ensure Kenya remains a key host for the annual rally.
Ruto announced that he will personally attend the event to experience the thrill alongside Kenyans.
“To many Kenyans who will be spending this weekend in Naivasha, Karibuni sana (Welcome). All of us are happy to be part of this World Series. I will be there myself, tukutane Vasha (Let’s meet in Vasha),” he said enthusiastically.
This year’s Safari Rally will feature two new stages—Morendat Farm in Naivasha and Camp Moran—marking a significant shift in the competition’s route.
Organizers have also moved the shakedown stage from Loldia to the Sleeping Warrior stage, while the iconic 32km Kedong stage has been reduced by half.
Spectators will have a full experience of the rally, with multiple locations set up for fans to watch the race cars as they navigate through the challenging Kenyan terrain.
The event’s organizers have assured that safety measures and crowd control strategies will be in place to ensure an enjoyable experience for all attendees.
On Thursday, March 20, President Ruto will flag off the rally at 11:26 AM during a ceremonial start at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, setting the stage for a thrilling motorsport spectacle.
