Inject Party leader Morara Kebaso has termed Monday, March 24, 2025, as National Jobless Rally Day. On this day, Kenyan youths will gather to demand their right to employment and a better quality of life in the country.

In a video shared on his X account on Monday, March 17, 2025, Kebaso spoke about the struggles young people face due to unemployment. He emphasized that many youths cannot sustain themselves, afford basic needs, or even start families due to the lack of job opportunities.

The politician announced that the rally would take place at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, starting at 9:00 am. He urged all unemployed youth to turn up in large numbers to demonstrate the scale of the crisis and push for action from the government.

“We have been at the forefront in saying that the youth of Kenya have no jobs, they cannot feed themselves, they cannot survive, and they cannot even get married. If you are a young person and you have no job, you are a jobless youth. We are starting the Jobless Youth Movement to agitate for youth employment. On March 24th, we will be at Uhuru Park for the nationwide Jobless Rally. If you can make it, come at 9:00 am,” Morara stated.

He also criticized government initiatives like the Housing Levy and the Social Health Authority (SHA), arguing that jobless youth are unable to contribute since they lack payslips. He called on the youth to unite and fight for their right to work and live with dignity in Kenya.

“Let us show them how many youth are unemployed and unable to feed themselves. Even the plans they are making, such as the Housing program, do not benefit the youth because they do not even have payslips. They cannot even pay for the SHA health insurance because they do not have a payslip. Let us meet at Uhuru Park and stand in solidarity to fight for our right to work and live in this country,” Morara added.

Construction jobs

Morara’s remarks come barely a week after President William Ruto encouraged young people to take advantage of job opportunities in the Affordable Housing programme and the Nairobi River regeneration project.

During a visit to Kasarani on Friday, March 14, 2025, Ruto announced plans to increase the workforce involved in the two initiatives.

“Kazi haiwezikufuata nyumbani. Lazima ujitume. Hata leo, naenda kuanzisha programme ya affordable housing ya nyumba karibu elfu tano. Mjipange hapo kwa affordable housing. Pale inahitaji engineer plumber, mason, carpenter, electrician, watu wa mkono na wamama wa kutengeneza chakula. Sasa wewe si uende huko ujipange na ajira,” he said.

Loosely translated as;

“You have to be proactive to get jobs. Today, I will be launching the construction of 5,000 affordable housing programme units. Be on the lookout for jobs for engineers, plumbers, masons, carpenters, errand persons, and women providing food for the labourers. Why can’t you go there and get the jobs?”
