Meru – Isaac Mutuma has been sworn in as the new governor of the Meru County.

On Monday, March 17, Isaac Mutuma was sworn in at Mwendantu Stadium and became the fourth governor of Meru County.
His oath took place just days after the Supreme Court confirmed the Senate's decision to remove him Lighting In power in 2024.
Friday, March 14, Judge Luck The woman dismissed the request for Enlightenment, saying that it did not meet the legal criteria for overturning the Senate's decision.
Several political leaders from Meru County, including Water Minister Eric Muga, Senator Kathuri Murungi, former Minister of Agriculture Mithika Linturi, and Kiraitu Murungi, attended the event.

The ceremony of his swearing -in was celebrated with dance and dance from many of the residents present.
In his speech, Mutuma promised to restore peace and solidarity between Meru leaders, which Lightness failed to fulfill.
“We all know that our county is facing many divisions among leaders … like your new governor, my immediate role is to restore peace and solidarity,” Said Mutuma.
He also promised to revive the Meru Youth Service, emphasizing that the future of the county is in the hands of young people.
“The future of Meru depends on our youth; therefore, we must enable them by giving them the skills needed to achieve their lives. In this, Meru Youth Service has played a major role in giving our young people practical skills. he added.

When Mutuma was sworn in, Lighting announced his withdrawal from the UDA party and his intention to form a new political party next week, while continuing to fight to nullify his ouster.

Mutuma now replaces Light, who previously survived two attempts to oust him.
In December 2022, a special Senate committee chaired by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale saved him by dismissing all charges against him.
In the case of the 2023 impeachment, he survived through the entire Senate Committee.
However, in August 2024, Light was not lucky, as the Senate passed the decision by the Meru County parliament to remove him from office.
In every attempt to remove him from office, Light was facing charges of abuse of authority, misconduct, and violations of the constitution.
Light was elected August 2022 as the third governor of Meru, following in the footsteps of Kiraitu Murungi (2017-2022) and Peter Munya (2013-2017).
