Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has given an update on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) event that is now taking place in New York.
Wanga, in a statement shared via her official Facebook account on Monday, March 17, said that they were winding up their week-long meetings at the event. As the sessions come to an end, Governor Wanga commented on the cold weather in New York.
“Chilly morning here in New York as we wind our week-long meetings at CSW,” she wrote.

Wanga’s role at CSW
An important yearly event under the UN framework, the CSW brings together advocates, policymakers, and world leaders to talk about and promote women’s empowerment and gender equality.
Governor Wanga has been actively involved in high-level panels and side events that address topics including gender-based violence prevention, women’s economic development, and educational access.
According to a programme seen by K24 Digital, Governor Wanga led a panel discussion on best practices in own source revenue mobilization for gender equality and women empowerment programming, during a side event convened by the government of Kenya in collaboration with the government of Mauritius, on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
The event that kicked off on March 10, 2025, is taking place at United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York and is set to come to a close on March 12, 2025.
Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world had been invited to attend the session.
CSW theme
The main focus of the 69th session has been on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.
The review includes an assessment of current challenges that affect the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and its contribution towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Kenyan delegation at the event include Governor Wanga,the wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ida Odinga, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Senator Hamida Kibwana, and Rozaah Buyu, the Kisumu West Member of Parliament.
In her statement posted on Facebook on March 11, 2025, Governor Wanga expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the international forum.
“Touching down at the #CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) 2025, where policy meets passion and global voices unite for gender equality. Honoured to stand alongside Min Piny Canon Dr Ida Odinga, H.E Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Mhesh. Rozaah Buyu, and other women leaders ready to challenge, learn, and empower,” Wanga stated.
