Esther Njeri, the grandmother of the late TikTok star Brian Chira, grew emotional as she prayed for her grandson’s soul on his first death anniversary, which was yesterday, March 16, 2025.

In a video shared on her recently created TikTok page, on the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2025, the grandmother sang a heartfelt song while touching a framed picture of the late TikToker and noting that she still could not believe a year had passed since he died.

Singing in her Kikuyu dialect, she recalled the day he died, noting that he had left a void in their hearts following his untimely demise.

“Chira, fly with the angels. You left without telling us. This day is filled with sorrow. It was a day like today, and now our hearts are heavy with grief. Fly in peace, wherever you went—you went and never returned. That place is not good.”

The grandmother, who recently came out to urge fans to stop claiming that she does nothing for a living, then went further to ask God to keep his soul in peace, saying that it was her prayer that they would meet once more.

The grandmother, who recently pleaded with fans to stop accusing her of idleness, then turned to God, fervently praying for her grandson’s soul to rest in eternal peace and expressing her deepest hope that one day, they would be reunited.

The grandmother then got emotional as her song reached an apex, and she thanked God for the life He had given her, saying all would be well and expressing hope that her grandson would be granted eternal rest.

“You never returned. Rest in peace. If God wills it, we shall meet again. On a day like today, in a month like today, our hearts were left in sorrow. We shed tears we can never forget. Fly in peace.”

Chira’s death anniversary

The grandmother was the last among a lineup of relatives and friends of the TikTok creator who yesterday took time to remember his soul as they marked exactly one year after his death.

The first one was the grandmother’s TikToker friend Obidan Dela, who visited her and did a video with Chira’s brother and his cousin, telling them to say good things for his soul.

Obidan himself also shared that he greatly missed the TikToker and said that he knew he was in a good place.

The second was Baba Talisha, who, aside from having been part of Chira’s inner circle, had also been a great helper to his grandmother after his death.

Baba Talisha was arguably the one who rallied TikTokers to donate a whopping Ksh 8 million to help build a house for the grandmother, but all the efforts ended up in drama after the grandmother accused him of misappropriating the funds.

In his tribute yesterday, Sunday, March 16, 2025, Baba Talisha reflected on the lessons he had learnt since Chira’s departure, expressing the importance of kindness even when it is not appreciated and acknowledging the painful reality that some people may not recognise or value sacrifices made for them.

“A year has passed, and today reminds me of two things since this boy Chira left. Never regret the kindness you showed somebody who didn’t deserve it. They did you wrong; you did them right, and for that, you should be proud. One day, somebody you sacrificed so much for will turn around and say they never asked for it, and it will hurt because they will be right,” the content creator stated.

Chira’s tragic death

The former TikTok star met his untimely demise after he was hit by a canter trailer on the night of March 16, 2024, during a road dash as he attempted to cross to the other side.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and his body was discovered by the roadside early the next morning, with police stating that investigations were underway.

By the time of his passing, Chira had become a hot topic on the popular video-sharing app, having already surpassed the 400,000 followers mark.

His candour in videos, his witty reactions to trending topics, and his fluency in English had cemented his place on the For You Page (FYP) of many netizens, making him a viral content creator for months.

However, it wasn’t until the tragic incident on March 16 that his young life was cut short at the tender age of 23, leaving the TikTok community and Kenyans in general discussing him for months.

Chira’s burial took place on Tuesday, March 26, 2025, in Gitei, Gathanje, at his grandmother’s ancestral home in a ceremony that drew a crowd larger than a political rally.
