Meru: New Governor to be sworn in after the court approves the removal of Kawira Enlightenment

Isaac Mutuma is expected to take over the county's leadership from his former boss, the governor Lightingwhose removal was approved by the Nairobi High Court on Friday, March 14.

A government newspaper notification published on Friday, March 14, showed that Mutuma, who served as deputy of Light from 2022 to date, would be sworn in on Monday morning to hold the governor's office.

“It is reported to the public that the inauguration of Isaac Mutuma M'ethidi, as governor of Meru County, will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Mwendantu Stadium, starting at 8:30 am,” It said the statement published by Martin Gitije, chairman of the governor's ascension.

However, it is not lost that Mutuma and Light were not eye -catching in spite of finding an office together.

In support of the Senate's decision to prosecute Light, the High Court in Nairobi said that the Senate had conducted the charges in the right direction.

The county boss criticized his dismissal, saying it was not done in accordance with the legal elements and that there was no game of justice from the beginning.

Prior to the court's decision on Friday, the third Meru governor survived two other attempts to remove office.

He was first charged in December 2022; The Senate committee chaired by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale rescued him after dismissing the charges he had been charged with.

Another prosecution came in 2023, but the Senate rescued him again after he charged his case on the floor.

In a third lawsuit in August 2024, in which 49 of the 69 ward representatives voted to bring him home, the Senate decided to support the MCAs' decision and allow his removal to stand up.

In both cases, Enlightenment has been accused of alleged misuse of office, extreme misconduct, and a violation of the constitution.

He was elected in August 2022 as the third governor of Meru, coming after Kiaraitu Murungi (2017-2022) and Peter Munya (2013-2017).

He was one of the only seven governors in the Council of Governors (COG) ruled by the Men's County Heads.
