Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has addressed his purported beef with Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino.

Speaking during a televised interview with one of the local TV stations on Friday, March 14, 2025, Mosiria argued that his differences with Babu date back to their time as students at the University of Nairobi (UoN).

He further stated that the MP has always held a belief that he will never defeat him or become anything better beyond the campus politics.

Mosiria went ahead to claim that he had vied against Babu at UoN, but he was rigged.

Yangu na Babu imetoka back in campus. Babu believes that Mosiria will never defeat him, or Mosiria will not be anything beyond SONU. I vied against Babu in SONU, and because Babu is known to blackmail administrations, he was rigged in because he was the administration’s puppet, and that beef is still there,” Mosiria said.

Moreover, the Nairobi County officer who has gained fame on social media due to his way of solving environmental issues in the city argued that Babu had approached him at the time he wanted to vie for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat in 2017.

According to Mosiria, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker wanted him to shelve his parliamentary ambitions for him.

“The following year, when he was again defending that seat, Babu looked for me, and we sat in some restaurant in Kileleshwa, and he literally begged me and told me that he wanted to vie for the Embakasi East MP seat. Because I am a human being and I understood his request, I said it was okay and decided to vie for another seat,” he said.

He went ahead to argue that Babu feels threatened, thinking that he has been planning to vie against him in Embakasi East, just because he has been frequenting the constituency in the course of his duties.

Mosiria further urged the lawmaker to stop interfering with the work of Nairobi County’s environment department by sharing photos of garbage in undesignated areas.

“Here I am as the Chief Officer of Environment under the leadership of Governor Sakaja.

“Babu is an MP but is still threatened because he thinks I want to vie for his constituency because I frequent there doing environmental issues and engaging with the youth, but I want to tell my brother: serve your people, serve them diligently, do the work God gave you, and stop interfering with the work we are doing in the environment by taking and posting photos of garbage.

“Instead, provide a solution to the people as a leader by using your social media platforms to encourage people to stop doing illegal dumping,” Mosiria remarked.
