Detectives have arrested 38 persons of interest in connection with a series of attacks targeting innocent civilians along major roads in Nairobi.
In a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, March 15, 2025, the arrests were made during a police crackdown aimed at curbing criminal activities on Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road. Authorities launched the operation following reports of violent robberies and assaults in these areas.
According to the authorities, the individuals are currently in police custody at various stations, where they are undergoing processing. They are set to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges, including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony, and obstruction.
“In light of the recent attacks targeting innocent members of the public along Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way and Jogoo Road, police officers have taken swift action to hold the perpetrators accountable. A total of 38 suspects have been apprehended and are currently in police custody undergoing processing at various police stations as they await their court appearance,” DCI stated.

During the operation, police recovered seven motorcycles suspected to have been used in the attacks. Several mobile phones were also seized and are being held as evidence.
Law enforcement agencies have assured the public of their commitment to identifying and apprehending more individuals linked to these crimes. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help enhance security on the roads.
“During the crackdown, seven motorcycles used in terrorizing members of the public and several mobile phones were recovered and are securely detained as exhibits. The suspects are set to be arraigned on Monday, where they will face various charges, including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony and obstruction. In the meantime, Police officers remain steadfast in their efforts to identify and apprehend additional suspects behind these attacks,” the statement read further.
Surge in highway robberies
This comes less than a week after authorities initiated a crackdown in response to a string of robberies along Thika Highway on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. During the incident, a group of unruly youths attacked motorists and pedestrians following a rally addressed by President William Ruto.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 13, 2025, the DCI confirmed that at least eight suspects had been apprehended in connection with the attacks.
“In response to a disturbing series of attacks and robberies targeting innocent members of the public along Thika Highway on March 11, 2025, Police officers have launched a crackdown to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for these criminal acts and ensure public safety is restored,” the DCI stated.
