Thika's Chief Justice was arrested with a Ksh 2m cash

  • He is accused of receiving bribes to determine cases under his authority; EACC officials raided the Atambo house and received KSh 2 million believed to be corruption money

The Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating a judicial officer who is believed to be involved in corruption while performing his duties.

The chief judge of the court of ThikaStellah Atambo found himself on the radar of the anti -corruption agency after the complaint was filed against him.

The EACC received reports that Atambo claimed and allegedly received bribes when he decided the cases at his table.

The agency's investigators initiated an investigation, which ended with the invasion of the judge's house, where money believed to be corrupt revenue was made.

According to the EACC, Waitamo received the money through the clerk of the court he manages, Patrick Njeri Muriithi.

On Thursday, March 13, the EACC officials found KSh 2 million hidden in a laptop bag.

“When the commission obtained search permits, it conducted a search at the residence of the chief magistrate and clerk to obtain important documents and information to support the investigation. A total of KSh 2,070,000 in cash, suspected of being corrupt money, was found within a laptop in the latest residence, as well as various EACC investigations.”

Atambo and Muriithi were arrested and taken to the EACC headquarters for an interview.

However, through his lawyers, Atambo denied the charges against him, stating that the money that EACC officials had collected in their invasion at his home was his husband's.

The anti -corruption organization, in recent days, has been dealing with public officials believed to be involved in corruption cases.

The suspects were said to be pretending to be senior EACC investigators and used their fake status to rob government officials.

The suspects, former Kyululu ward representative in Kitui County James Mbuvi, Mike Muthami Kasingi and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe, were trapped in Three Hut's bar in Komarock, where they were reportedly waiting to escape the complainant.

After a thorough search, the EACC officials received 12 mobile phones, SIM cards 22 and eight registers with names and information of the targeted victims.

This comes a few days after the officers confronted another bilateral allegedly involved in corruption.

On February 22, EACC technicians found two officers working under the Kenyan tax authority and who were allegedly applying for bribes at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Lawrence Mutava and Timothy Momanyi, both customs officers in JKIA, were arrested for KSh 120,000 to release the goods seized from the victim, the Traveler.

The traveler refused to accept the allegations and instead secretly reported to the EACC.

In arresting the customs officers, EACC staff conducted a thorough search and received an additional KSh 297,000 hidden in a bag within one of their vehicles.

They were immediately arrested and taken to court to answer the charges.
