Bungoma Water and Sewerage Company (BWASCO) has launched a crackdown on all illegal water connections in Bungoma town and its environs.
The company’s managing director Mr. Mathews Wakhungu accused some residents of installing illegal connections to the company’s pipelines and warned the culprits that they would face the law.
He was speaking to KNA in Bungoma town when he led a team of officers from the company and security officers in an operation to disconnect the illegal connections.
Wakhungu urged residents to cooperate with security officers and report cases of water theft saying this was adversely affecting the supply of water in the area alongside denying the company revenue.
He said individuals found stealing water face a fine of Sh30,000 while institutions would be fined Sh100,000.
Wakhungu asked members of the public to be wary of impostors who may pose as the company officers saying genuine officers carried tags that bore their names, employment numbers, and photographs.
He urged the public to report any water leaks, saying this would go a long way in saving the company losses due to waste.
