Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has responded to the leader of the majority party in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah over comments he made while appearing on a show on Al Jazeera.

In a fierce rejoinder to Ichung’wah’s assertion that Muturi was unhappy with the CS Public Service position he was given after he was removed from being the attorney general, the CS observed that the Kikuyu MP does not even speak on behalf of his constituents.

“I am not sure on whose behalf Kimani Ichung’wah speaks because I don’t think that he even speaks on behalf of the people of Kikuyu constituency,” Muturi said.

Report to authorities

“If Kimani Ichung’wah believes that I was receiving bribes, the best thing for him to do is to go and report to the relevant authorities for action to be taken against me. As the Attorney general, I was not advising individuals like Kimani Ichung’wah. I would advise him to go and seek counsel from elsewhere,” he added.

Ichung’wah had been confronted with the question of abductions in the country which had been confirmed by Muturi whose son Leslie was abducted on June 22, 2024, and released the following day after the intervention of President William Ruto.

“It is an allegation from CS Muturi. Have you heard from President Ruto or the Director of Intelligence Service? That’s why I told you CS Muturi is a politician and has beef with his boss,” Ichung’wah quipped during the interview.

On the way out

He added that Muturi was just a bitter cabinet secretary who had fallen out with the government and was on his way out.

“I told you emphatically that the minister has reasons to lie. And he knows it (he’s on his way out). He’s playing politics with a very unfortunate incident.”

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Muturi revealed that he had skipped three cabinet meetings since the beginning of the year after he wrote to be excused until the topic of abductions was brought in as an agenda in the cabinet.

“(I skipped) the meeting on January 21, 2025, February 11, 2025 and March 11, 2025. In my case, I have written and sought to be excused from attending cabinet meetings until or unless the agenda of abductions and extra-judicial killings in the country is formally tabled through a cabinet memorandum so that the cabinet is able to express itself and give the country a way forward,” Muturi observed.
