National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has called on MPs to focus on integrity and transparency in reviewing the new commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking during a church service at the Mokwo parish in Keiyo South Parliament, Elgeyo Marakwet County, stressed that parliamentarians must put national interests ahead of political positions to ensure the right to election and free.

Wetang'ula highlighted the important role of Parliament in creating a Kenyan electoral system, calling on parliamentarians to approve the capable and impartial candidates of the commission.

He reminded them that the nomination panel had published a list of candidates and would soon provide a short list, emphasizing their responsibility to approve the nominees who would comply with the country's democratic values.

“You, as MPs, have a responsibility to choose a new team of IEBC. Please choose Kenyans with regulations that respect the law and hold the Constitution so that they do not bring problems in our country. That's what we urge. Kenyans rely on you MPs, ” He said.

Wetang'ula confirmed his unstable support for political agreement between President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odingasaying he is the coordinator of the first Kenyan Executive Committee that decides such issues of great importance.

Chebikati is praised as a leader who had a rule

Wetang'ula's remarks follow the funeral of former IEBC chairman Fula chebikati The Kiminini area, where Ruto praised the Chairman of the Electoral Commission who left as a ritual and diligent leader who maintained integrity during the 2022 election.

In his speech, Wetangula either referred to Chebikati as a pillar of resilience, praising his courage in managing the elections that create divisions.
