The accident happened on Monday morning, March 10, after a motorcycle they had been in a truck collided with a truck.
West Kirinyaga Police Commander, Moses Koskei, confirmed that the victims – Alex Mwangi, John Macharia, and David Muchiri – were heading to Karatina from Sagana when their motorcycle hit the back of the truck.
“The three suffered serious head injuries due to the force of the collision,” Koskei told Citizen Digital.
Muchiri's brother revealed that he completed form four in 2024 and was waiting to join the university.
Mwangi also graduated in form four last year, with Macharia being a third -grade student.
After the accident, they were taken to Karatina Hospital, where the two died when they were brought to the world, while the third died while receiving treatment.
Koskei urged parents to prevent young children from using motorcycles, saying the number of deaths caused by infant operators is increasing.
The bodies of the victims were transferred to the mortuary of Karatina Hospital for further storage and procedures.
In a separate incident, two people lost their lives in an accident on the Bomet-Narok highway in the Braven area.
The accident happened just hours after another bad occurred on the Kitale-Webye road, where five people died after a truck was slowly losing focus and hit two bodaboda operators before overturning.
The Kitale-Webye accident angered residents, who, despite the presence of police, burned the truck for blaming the driver for poor operation.
These incidents are high as the number of road deaths in the country is increasing, with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) warning drivers and motorcyclists to follow the rules to reduce accidents and save lives.
