Kathiani Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Mbui on Monday, March 10, 2025, said that he nearly lost his life while supporting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Without delving deeper on what transpired, Mbui told a local TV station that he sustained serious injuries at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, where his car was among those behind Raila’s convoy.
Mbui, who did not reveal when that happened, further claimed that a metal was placed inside his foot to help him walk.
“I am one of those people who can say, I almost lost my life in support of Raila Odinga. My leg up to now I walk with a pin on my leg from my knee to my ankle. Up to now I have a metal in my leg because of following Raila,” Mbui claimed.

“I was three- four cars behind Raila at Uhuru Park,” he added.
Faults Raila-Ruto pact
At the same time, Mbui scoffed at the newly found bromance that led to the signing of a pact between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Mbui, who was elected on the Wiper Party ticket, maintained that the new framework would not add value to Raila or guarantee President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
The lawmaker opined that it was a well choreographed scheme to silence the opposition. Moreover, he insisted that the 10-point agenda highlighted by the leaders during the signing of the framework was not new but what the constitution stipulates.

“Whatever is happening right now is not going to add any value to him. If you look at the 10-point agenda that was raised, you just need to read the Constitution,” he told a local TV station.
“I suspect this is a scheme by Ruto to prepare himself for 2027. He wanted to silence the opposition. They just did a summary of the Constitution, picked some things to make it look and sound very nice and then tell Kenyans things are happening,” he added.
Raila will come back to senses
The Kathiani MP nonetheless expressed optimism that Raila would come back to his senses and go back to siding with the people and the opposition in keeping the government in check.

“This is a person I have believed in. I don’t know what has happened, and I think maybe he will come to his senses and tell us what is really going on.”
He also believes that Ruto’s promise to ensure Odinga is accorded appropriate respect is a bold falsehood, arguing that the two share a dark past that might remain alive.
“Who has been mistreating Raila? It is UDA. So now suddenly he says that now ‘you will be treated well’, by who?” he posed.
