The escalating situation in Roysambu, Kasarani constituency, has drawn sharp condemnation from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, following reports of excessive police force against protesters.

In a statement, on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Odhiambo expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, highlighting the alarming actions of the police and calling for immediate restraint.

According to the LSK President, a team of advocates dispatched to Kasarani was unable to access the police station, where several individuals are reportedly being held because the roads leading to the station had been barricaded, further complicating their efforts to intervene.

Odhiambo noted that numerous reports had emerged of individuals being beaten and injured by police officers, an act that raised serious questions about the force’s conduct.

“The escalating situation in Kasarani is deeply concerning. Our team of Advocates has been unable to gain access to Kasarani Police Station, where some Kenyans are being held, as the roads have been barricaded,” Odhiambo condemned.

“We take note of reports of several persons who have been beaten up and injured by police. We demand that the@NPSOfficial_KE exercise restraint from using excessive force against the people.

In addition to the reported injuries, Odhiambo condemned the police for indiscriminately lobbing tear gas in largely residential areas without any provocation adding that such actions were not only unjust but also dangerous, as they undermined the peace and safety of the public.

“We have also seen images of police indiscriminately lobbing teargas canisters in largely residential areas and without provocation. This itself is a breach of the peace and order police are required to maintain,” she added.

Protest in Roysambu

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, a group of youth threatened to storm Jesus Winner Ministry Church located near TRM Mall in Roysambu. Their protest was linked to President William Ruto’s donation to the church.

Last Sunday, Ruto pledged Ksh20 million to support the construction of a church and also promised to raise an additional Ksh100 million during an upcoming fundraiser.

“I am a product of giving to God, and I am unapologetic about giving to God, and I do it on the firm foundation of the scriptures,” he told the congregation.

The president further stated that his contributions to churches are not only an expression of faith but also serve as a response to his political opponents.

“I have accepted to come and do Harambee together, and in that Harambee, I will make arrangements with my friends to look for Ksh 100 million and bring it here. We will build this church so that we shame our political enemies,” Ruto said.
