Kenyan comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has promised Kenyans a better future as he celebrates his 43rd birthday.
Taking to his Instagram page on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the comedian, who has been vocal about various social and political issues, expressed his gratitude to God, his family, friends, fans, and supporters.
He also acknowledged the struggles facing the country, stating that many Kenyans are not happy with the state of leadership and the tough economic conditions.
Omondi emphasized that the country is at a turning point, declaring that a new generation of leaders is rising. He believes that the current leaders are the last of their kind and that a fresh wave of change is on the horizon.
“Today, as I celebrate yet another year. I want to thank god for his grace upon me. I am also extremely grateful to my family, my friends, fans and supporters. Our journey continues. Kenya is not okay. The people are not okay. The country is not okay. A lot is going to change for the good. There is going to be a new Kenya. A new generation is currently arising…There will be a change of guard. These current leaders are the last of their kind, the last of their generation. We will birth a new Kenya. God with us,” Eric Omondi noted.

Activism and arrests
The funny man has been at the forefront of protests addressing the high cost of living and government policies, leading to multiple arrests.
On February 21, 2023, Omondi led demonstrations outside the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, protesting against the escalating cost of living. He and other protesters blocked Parliament Road, demanding to be addressed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula. Police intervened, dispersing the crowd with tear gas and arresting Omondi, alongside others.
On June 21, 2024, Omondi staged a protest against the proposed Finance Bill 2024 by riding a horse outside the Parliament Building. Accompanied by a few individuals dressed in red, he voiced his opposition to the bill.
“Come and kill me, my brother was also killed,” he said moments before his viral arrest, referencing his loss and expressing his readiness to face any consequences. Police officers pulled him from the horse and took him into custody.

On November 15, 2024, Omondi was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Dar es Salaam. Authorities detained him due to a stop order related to his previous protests. He was charged with creating a disturbance during the June 2024 protests and was released on a Ksh5,000 cash bail.
On October 20, 2024, Omondi announced his arrest as police thwarted his planned parallel Mashujaa Day rally at Uhuru Park. The event aimed to honor Kenyans who lost their lives during the Gen Z-led protests in June and July 2024.
Eric Omondi has consistently utilized his platform to challenge government policies and advocate for the rights of ordinary Kenyans, often facing legal repercussions for his activism.
