A young trainee pilot lost his life when a light aircraft crashed and caught fire at Ikanga Village in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
According to Taita Taveta County Police Commander Ali Ndiema, the 20-year-old was flying from Malindi when the aircraft attempted to land at Ikanga Airstrip but tragically crashed approximately 500 meters from the runway. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames.
“The aircraft was coming from Malindi and attempted to land at Ikanga Airstrip but tragically crashed just a few metres away, resulting in a fire,” he said.
The police commander noted that investigators from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Unit and officials from the flying institution were en route to the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
“We are waiting for them before we clear the scene,” Ndiema added.
