Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has paid tribute to women making great strides in society as the world celebrated International Women’s Day.
When it comes to celebrating women who have made a major impact in society, Jamaican legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ranks highly due to what she has done over the years.
The 38-year-old has not only brought glory to Jamaica through her athletics prowess but used her platform to advocate for the rights of girls and children in her country, and the world as a whole.
Fraser-Pryce does not just do the talking but also puts her money where her mouth is as she is the founder of the Pocket Rocket Foundation which has been giving scholarships to needy but bright students in Jamaica.
Harambee Starlets have moved up seven places in the latest FIFA rankings thanks to their impressive results against Tunisia in the WAFCON qualifiers.
As the world marked International Women’s Day on Saturday March 8, Fraser-Pryce was among the superwomen who received their flowers but she chose to celebrate the day by lauding fellow women who are making change in whatever little way.

New Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has handed a lifeline to the South African-based defender after including him in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
“With each generation, women have shaped history – breaking barriers, creating change, and leaving a legacy that stands the test of time,” Fraser-Pryce posted on Instagram.
“Today we celebrate the worldwide impact of women, past, present and future. Happy International Women’s Day.”
The 10-time world champion started the Pocket Rocket Foundation in 2013 and it has been giving needy but bright students full scholarships in Jamaica while growing in stature since giving scholarships to seven students in its first year to a record 20 in 2024.
The students are selected from a pool of hundreds of applicants and each scholar receives $100,000 to cover school expenses, along with Nike bags, GraceKennedy gift baskets, and $5,000 gift vouchers, all thanks to the millions Fraser-Pryce has been able to raise for the foundation through her partners.
Fraser-Pryce has also ventured into businesses aimed at making women look beautiful as she has a salon as well as a haircare line, AFIMI, which was launched last year.
