KCB roped in the expertise of South African giants DHL Stormers coach Rito Hlungwani to fine-tune their squad ahead of their high-stakes Kenya Cup showdown against Kabras Sugar this weekend.
KCB RFC has turned to the expertise of DHL Stormers forwards coach Rito Hlungwani to fine-tune their squad in preparation for a high-stakes Kenya Cup clash against defending champions Kabras Sugar RFC.
Scheduled for March 8 at the ASK Grounds in Kakamega, this top-of-the-table showdown will not only determine the league leader but also grant the winner hosting rights for the Kenya Cup final, provided they progress through the semi-finals.
“Historically, KCB-Kabras has always been a tough game, and the players and the coaches all know it will be tough,” said Hlungwani during a training session at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed that the club officially submitted all the paperwork on Tuesday, 5th March 2025, to acquire the land in Kasarani supposed to be used for the building of its stadium.
Expressing his commitment to strengthening the team’s processes, he added, “I am good friends with the club, and my big job is to help the weak points among the coaches in how they run the team. My great job is to come here and make them have a better process. It is a great honor for me to assist the team.”
The South African tactician has focused on enhancing KCB’s set-pieces, breakdown efficiency, and forward dominance—key aspects that could make the difference against a formidable Kabras side.
“I am impressed with the level of talent and discipline within the KCB squad,” he said.
“Our focus has been on refining key areas to ensure the team is well-prepared for the upcoming challenge.”
Currently leading the Kenya Cup standings with 50 points after nine rounds, KCB RFC is determined to secure a home final—a feat they last achieved in 2006. Despite their impressive record, the team knows the stakes are high.
KCB head coach Oliver Mang’eni highlighted the significance of Hlungwani’s input, stating, “Having a coach of his calibre working with our forwards is a big boost. Kabras is a strong side, and we need to be at our best. The pressure is on them to perform in front of their home fans, while our focus remains on executing our game plan.”
As anticipation builds, Hlungwani also explained the importance of the team’s preparation and alignment: “What stands out today and in preparation for Saturday is how the coaches are aligned in their plan and how they have transferred it to the players.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has joined the list of highest paid Africa national team coaches but he still does not compare to many others on the continent.
