Harambee Starlets biggest climbers in the world thanks to win over Tunisia

Harambee Starlets have moved up seven places in the latest FIFA rankings thanks to their impressive results against Tunisia in the WAFCON qualifiers.

Harambee Starlet’s victory over Tunisia in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers has seen them make a major leap in the FIFA rankings.

Kenya are the biggest gainers in the latest rankings released on Thursday after jumping seven places up to position 149 on the global rankings, all thanks to their impressive results against the North Africans.

Starlets forced a goalless draw in Nairobi before securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory in Tunis to qualify for the final round of the WAFCON qualifiers, where they will face the Gambia.

Like Kenya, East African neighbours Tanzania also moved up seven places to position 145 after their victory against Equatorial Guinea in the WAFCON first round qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the defeat to Kenya saw Tunisia drop 11 places – more than any other country – to 89th, while Djibouti appeared on the rankings for the first time.

Beldine Odemba’s charges will hope to climb up further when they take on the Gambia in the final round of qualifiers as victory will see them seal a place at the continental tournament for just the second time since their debut in 2016.
