Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has shared his thoughts over the struggles of Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim at the Premier League club.
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy believes Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has the quality to turn around the Red Devils’ fortunes.
Amorim has overseen one of the worst run of results during his short rein at Old Trafford, with United winning just 10 of his 24 games in charge with nine defeats across all competitions.
United look worse than they were under Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after a poor start to the season, and conversations have turned to avoiding relegation instead of challenging for European football qualification.
McCarthy, who worked under Ten Hag as the club’s attacking coach for two years feels the Dutchman did excellently despite a number of challenges, and believes Amorim has the skills to succeed if everything is put in place for him.
“Man United everyone is talking about how bad, how terrible Man United is now, but when I was there, under coach Erik ten Hag, Man City was probably the best team in the world and we still won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup,” McCarthy told the BBC before weighing in on Amorim’s tenure.
“He [Amorim] is clever, he is a smart coach, he is young. He might not have all the answers but I think he’s got a good philosophy.”

The South African legend hopes Amorim can quickly turn around the fortunes of the club so that fans, including him, can start enjoying watching them instead of the painful experiences they currently have to endure.
“I will always be a Man United fan, I love the club, I want to see the club back at the top so that we can enjoy our weekends. So that every time they play, you are happy to have a glass of wine and chill, relax because you know the team is going to do the business,” he added.

New Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy will begin his Kenyan assignment with 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month but which players risk missing out?
United are currently in 14th place on the Premier League table with 33 points from 27 matches and have been eliminated from both the Carabao and FA Cups.
Amorim and his men have a tricky Europa League Round of 16 tie away to La Liga side Real Sociedad on Thursday.
