3 thriving multi-million ventures owned by Jamaican sprint legend

Jamaican sprint Usain Bolt has been in the news for the millions he lost through an investment scam but he has also made some smart business decisions.

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt remains one of the highest paid athletes despite hanging his spikes in 2017.

Bolt retired as the greatest sprinter of all-time after leaving behind an incredible legacy that includes 11 world titles, eight Olympics gold medals and two world records in 100m and 200m, yet to be broken to date since he set both of them in 2009.

Through his athletics prowess, Usain Bolt was able to earn big in prize money and endorsement deals, taking his net worth to a reported $90 million as of 2024.

Bolt also invested his earnings in different ventures with some failing to take off, including an investment scheme in Jamaica that saw his $12.8 million disappear without a trace in January 2023.

However, while he made some business mistakes, Bolt also made other sound investment decisions that have been bringing him money even when not running.

Usain Bolt’s endorsements & appearance fees

Usain Bolt earns $4 million annually from Puma.

Usain Bolt’s main endorsement deal comes from kit maker Puma, who pay him $4 million annually, having represented them with distinction throughout his storied sprinting career.

Puma signed Bolt when he was just 16 after he had won the World Junior Championships in 2002 and as his stock rose, the deal increased to $9 million annually by the time he was winning Olympics gold in 2008.

Bolt would move past the $10 million-mark annually when he won gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics as Puma had to pull all stops to keep their prized asset happy given rival firms were salivating.

Post retirement, the deal was reduced to $4 million, still way better than some top sprinters still actively competing, and as part of their contract, Puma sends sporting gear to Usain Bolt’s high school in Jamaica every year.

Besides Puma, Bolt also features in a number of campaigns for various brands and is invited to grace events which comes with a massive fee given the huge following and respect that he commands.
