Seb Coe says AIU is ‘very satisfied’ with Kenya’s progress in the fight against doping

Seb Coe has praised Kenya’s $5 million annual investment in the anti-doping fight, stating that the Athletics Integrity Unit is highly satisfied with the progress made.

World Athletics president Seb Coe has lauded Kenya’s efforts in the fight against doping, revealing that the Athletics Integrity Unit is pleased with the progress so far.

Seb Coe commended the Kenyan government’s efforts for their commitment to helping in the fight against the menace, with a $5 million investment yearly.

The International Olympic Committee presidential candidate revealed that Kenya has made great strides in the right direction, as compared to when he came to the nation two years ago when the country was on the verge of a ban.

He added that at the moment, there is a permanent officer from the Athletics Integrity Unit who is tasked with engaging with Athletics Kenya and the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya.

“One was the ongoing fight in the anti-doping space, which the Kenyan government had been so supportive of all our efforts,” Seb Coe said.

“And the second key area, and the very prominent challenge, is gender-based violence, not entirely or uniquely linked to sport, but recognizing that we can use sport as a way of raising the profile of this challenge.”

“I know the Athletic Integrity Unit, which is the independent organization within World Athletics that monitors and conducts all our testing programs, is very satisfied by the progress that is being made.”

Speaking at the same time, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya noted that the Kenyan government has been very instrumental in helping in the fight against doping.

He assured that the government will continue their support like they have been doing in the past two years.

“The government of Kenya is committed to ensuring that we continue to strengthen our resolve to have athletes participate in competitions with a lot of integrity,” Mvurya said.

“We have remained committed to ensuring that we avail resources every year to strengthen sensitization, testing of athletes, and also to do investigations, as well as making sure that we create awareness for compliance for every athlete.”
