Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has condemned Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other harmful practices against girls.
The lawmaker has urged communities still practising FGM to abandon the tradition, emphasizing the need to protect young girls from such violations.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, Kaluma questioned why some communities insist on practicing FGM while their men seek relationships with women from communities that do not engage in the practice. He called for an end to FGM, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages, stating that girls should not be forced into motherhood or marriage at a young age.
“Let’s now discuss female genital mutilation (FGM). Why do some communities insist on this primitive criminal culture? Why do men from these communities insist on FGM for their daughters only to flock to Kisumu, Mombasa, etc, for unmutilated ladies? Stop FGM. Stop teenage pregnancies. Stop early marriages! Girls should not be mothers, wives!” Kaluma stated.
His latest remarks follow a statement he made the previous day, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, where he also challenged the practice of male circumcision. He noted that communities where male circumcision is widely practiced often struggle with rising cases of FGM, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages.
Kaluma expressed concerns over the logic behind FGM, questioning why men from communities that engage in the practice insist on circumcising their daughters while preferring relationships with women from communities that do not practice it.
“Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies and early marriages are on the rise in most communities that practice male genital mutilation (circumcision). Why should men from communities that practice female genital mutilation chop their daughter’s genitals and then flock to ladies from communities that don’t practice it, if FGM is good?” Kaluma said.

The MP also made controversial remarks regarding male circumcision, arguing that circumcision worldwide is practiced by a minority group. He called for a nationwide halt to all forms of genital mutilation, stating that it is time to protect the dignity of young people in Kenya.
“Across the world, circumcision is practised by barely 10% of small, weak and dirty men. Let us stop all forms of genital mutilation in Kenya and keep our young people from these social vices,” Kaluma said.
“Stop circumcision. Circumcision is male genital mutilation. Donkeys don’t circumcise. All animals don’t circumcise exept a few human beings who have been lied to that they are grandchildren of Abraham, a man who lived in the desert without water!”
