The Ministry of Health (MOH), in collaboration with Kisii county health officials and other stakeholders, is working towards containing the outbreak of a strange disease in South Mugirango Constituency, Kisii County.
In a press release sent to newsrooms, Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary, Mary Muthoni said the Ministry had received an alert regarding the outbreak of the illness in various villages within the Constituency and so far, a total of 61 cases had been reported.
“The Ministry has activated a rapid response team conducting line listing of cases, contact tracing and active case finding to curb the spread of the illness,” noted Muthoni.
The PS pointed out that initial tests reveal the likely source of the infection is a contaminated spring which serves as the primary source of water for the affected villages.
As such, she advised the residents to adopt preventive measures including: ensuring drinking water is safe, proper storage of drinking water, practicing good hand hygiene and usage of well-constructed sanitation facilities.
“We remain committed to identifying the exact cause of this outbreak and implementing measures to prevent further spread, ensuring the health and safety of all affected communities,” concluded Ms. Muthoni.
