Siaya – A bad tragedy occurred on Monday, March 3, when a gold mine in the Lumba area of ​​North Ramba, a small Rarieda County, collapsed and covered six female miners.

It is alleged that the women were involved in their normal mining activities when the mine suddenly collapsed at 9:00 pm and bury them alive.

By evening, five bodies had been recovered, with a woman unknown, which raised fears that she too perished.

Did the perishable miners ignore the safety warning?

Siaya County Police Commander, Serah Koki confirmed the incident, saying that a team of various organizations had been sent to assist in rescue operations.

The found bodies were transported to the corpse of the suburb of the sub -county hospital Bondowhere a corpse surgery is expected to be conducted.

According to Lumba Village Elder Caroline Oginga, women who died in a recent accident had been repeatedly warned against working in an unstable mining area.

The mine, he explained, was on private land and was abandoned for safety.

However, women chose to ignore this warning and continue their mining operations, hoping to extract gold from a tunnel of 15 feet.

“They had been warned against entering the mining area, but they ignored the warnings and were immediately buried in when the mine came in,” Oginga said.

“When I arrived at the scene already the bodies had been released. This was not a formal mining area; It was part of a man's farm that these women had invaded gold drilling, ”he added.

The tragic accident is more recent in a series of similar incidents that have shook the area, raising concerns about the security situation in mining operations.

Just a week ago, three miners died in a separate mine that collapsed in the village of Rera, the suburb of Gem Wagai.

Approximately a month ago, another mine collapsed in the village of Kimeachimaa, Shinyalu parliament, Kakamega County, and captured 19 mines.

Four of them lost their lives, while others suffered serious injuries. The accident, which occurred on February 4, was fueled by the ongoing mining operations and the absence of a license.

Kakamega County Commissioner John Ondego expressed his concern about the increase in the number of deaths in mining, noting that many miners operate under high -risk environment without government supervision.
