Harambee Stars coach reveals plan to engage with FKFPL coaches in scouting for young talent for the national team.

Harambee Star coach Benni McCarthy has given fresh hope to the young players plying trade in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The newly-appointed Stars tactician has said he won’t be afraid to give playing time to junior players who will prove up to the task of donning the Harambee Stars colours.

The South African, who won the UEFA Champions League title under Jose Mourinho at FC Porto, told Flashscore: “I am a very big fan of giving young players an opportunity, I don’t care what is your age and I don’t see why we should shun young players, I give young players a chance always, and I will do so.”

At the same time, McCarthy, 47, said his objectives will only be possible if he works with FKFPL coaches so that he can have an understanding of how best the young players can thrive given the opportunity.

“I want to spend a lot of time to know coaches of teams in FKF Premier League, so we can have an understanding so they can work with us to bring up young players, there must be a good relationship between national team coaches and local coaches, so that we can be able to give young players the opportunity to grow and one day represent Harambee Stars at the highest level, that is how I will do things.”

Incoming Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy will get to work with the man he had selected as assistant after his current cut ties with him.


Joining McCarthy’s technical bench are Vasili Manousakis as Assistant Coach, Moeneeb Josephs as Goalkeepers Coach, and Pilela Maposa as Performance Analyst.

The quartet has signed two-year contracts and is expected to bring a fresh approach to the national team setup as Kenya looks ahead to upcoming international fixtures.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed expressed confidence in the new technical team, stating: “After a rigorous selection process, we are confident that Benni McCarthy is the right person to lead our national team forward. His experience, vision, and commitment to developing Kenyan football align perfectly with our ambitions. Alongside him, we welcome Vasili Manousakis as Assistant Coach, Moeneeb Josephs as Goalkeepers Coach, and Pilela Maposa as Performance Analyst. This team brings a wealth of expertise, and we believe they will instill tactical discipline, structure, and a winning mentality as we prepare for upcoming competitions.”
