UPII leaders oppose the Jubilee party's action to take Matiang'i to be their presidential candidate

The controversy erupted after Kisii UPAI leaders criticized the Jubilee party's decision to approve Matiang'i as presidential candidate.

Why did the leaders of the UPA blame Jeremiah Kion?

UPA Kisii Nyambane's chairman Nyambane on Wednesday, February 26, criticized Jubilee's support for Fred Matiang'i, claiming he was the UPA candidate in the 2027 elections.

“Stay knowing that the Kisii people have our candidate Fred Matiang'i. We are organized,” Nyambane said.

Another UPA official, Emmanuel Mwangi, supported Nyambane's remarks, calling on Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni to recognize that Matiang'i is a UPA, not Jubilee.

They delivered a clear message to the Kioni, confirming that they had negotiated with Matiang'i and agreed that he would run for president for the UPA party ticket.

“We address the Jubilee party and their leader Jeremiah Kioni. Mr Jeremiah Kioni we want to urge you. He said.

They focused on Matiang'i's record, from its time as secretary of the Cabinet of Education to its service in the Ministry of Interior.

Does Matiang'i have a chance against Ruto?

While announcing Matiang'i as their presidential candidate on Saturday, January 25, Kioni expressed his belief that he had the power to stop the President William Ruto to get the second semester.

Kioni called on Kenyans to support Matiang'i, emphasizing that united opposition could vote for the government of Kenya first In the 2027 general election.

He urged Mount Kenya to support leaders from the minority communities and allowed them for the presidency.

  • On Monday, January 27, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina dismissed the intention of former Internal Security Minister Fred Matiang'i for the presidency, claiming he was not the right candidate to replace President Ruto 2027.
  • Several Kenyans had pledged to support Matiang'i, citing his projects to bring about change in his term as secretary of the Cabinet.
